Megan (00:00)
I'm Megan Hamilton, and this is the Embracing Enchantment Podcast. All right, we are the day before Sawin Halloween. We are thinking about our ancestors. We are focusing on the veil being thin. We are probably we're in that halfway point between the fall equinox and the
winter solstice where I don't know about you, but I feel that sort of push and pull of coming out of a busy season and going into a slowing down. And it takes me a little while to adjust to that. Maybe you're feeling the same. Also for the perimenopausal among us, I started progesterone yesterday and I had the best sleep I've had in weeks.
I am not a medical doctor. would never give you medical advice. And I am under medical care from my doctor, and that is one of several different things that I take for perimenopause. However, I'll take the good sleep. So I've been so busy the last few weeks, and I'm still busy for the next little bit, but my band Hag
Has released three songs. The latest is called Witches. And I would love it if you would go to Spotify and find Hag and the song Witches and give it a listen. I wrote that song in 2023 when I had a songwriting residency at the Grand Theater here in Kingston. It's a seven hundred plus seat theater. I had it all to myself. And I wrote a bunch of new songs and I recorded them.
And when we were recording witches, when I get to the part about the devil card, because it's all about tarot, my amp started screaming. And there was a sound technician named Lucas there with me, and we both looked at each other. Because A, there was no reason for the amp to start screaming that we could figure out. And B
It was right at the point where we talked about the devil card. So
I think this song has some magical powers and I would love to imbue you with them. So, oops. Alright, we're just gonna get started right here. This is your tarot reading for Sawin 2026. May the ancestors be with you. May they guide you along the way.
And may we fuck the patriarchy once and for all and move on to a world that is much more generous and generative and careful and kind.
We're starting with the Ten of Wands.
I'm gonna make a guess here that most of the people listening are women or non-binary or gender fluid, queer folks, people who are interested in all different kinds of spirituality. There might be some of you that I've missed. Just know that you're included. I feel like the folks who are listening here do their fair share.
and possibly more than their fair share. So here's what I invite you to think about.
Where have you been carrying too much?
Where have you been carrying beyond what is yours? And what is it time to put down?
You're really strong. You can carry a lot. That doesn't mean you have to. was just having this conversation earlier, and there's a group program that I run called Impact Magic, where we learn how to speak on stages. And we were talking about how there's a lot of entrepreneurs who are also Gen X eldest daughters. And the problem is that they need help, but they don't know how to ask. They don't even recognize.
that they need help because they've always done it themselves. And there's a cost to that. And the cost is not just burnout, although burnout is a high, high cost.
cost to that is that you miss out on the joys of reciprocity. If you are the one carrying the weight, if you are the one doing it all, if you are the one taking on everybody else's shit.
You're not able to know what it feels like to be cared for held and to relax and not feel guilty. And I wonder if that's something you can ask your ancestors to help you with, because sorry ancestors, but we probably inherited some of that from you. All right, that's our Ten of Wands.
Sometimes I get really frustrated with my ancestors. I'm pretty sure they forgive me. I always apologize. But sometimes we inherit some shit that we're like, God damn it. Alright, what's next?
Hierophant. You know what's really funny? This is a very similar card to the card I was just thinking of when I was talking about reciprocity, which is the Six of Pentacles, which is the merchant who is handing out coins to two folks who are hard up. Because the positioning is very similar where you've got two folks that are positioned below somebody who is higher up with them. And we look at proximity and tarot, right? We look at
the relationships to each other. So this hierophant, who is a religious leader, ambiguous religious leader, is decreeing something as above, so below. And two looks like probably monks, because they've got those bald heads, are kneeling before the Hierophant. We have the lily and the rose. So we have
sweetness, valor, sort of, you know, flowers that represent knights and knighthood and the things that we think about with knights.
And I have heard people say that the hybrid fant is simply just about contracts, right? And so Mercury is retrograde right now. and so perhaps this is asking you to take a look at your contracts. But I want to go a little bit deeper, which is the discomfort sometimes of having people really look up to you. I want to do a hair toss and just say it's so hard. But the truth is it is a
Big responsibility to be responsible for the care of others, whether that is your job as a leader, in a corporate role, whether it's your job as a coach, whether it's your job as a parent, whether it's your job as the friend, you know, who does all the organizing.
There's a discomfort sometimes when people look up to you. And part of that could be because you're worried about letting them down. And part of that could be because it feels lonely.
You know, those two monks get to be at the same level. They get to hang out. The Hierophant is alone. So as we're leaning into this particularly potent time in terms of the spirit world, where can you be your own hierophant? If you find yourself constantly looking to others,
your spiritual guidance. This is an invitation for you to connect to the spiritual world. You can begin with your ancestors, what a great time to do that, and start to become your own authority.
Because we know from history that part of what can cause so many problems is blindly following religious leaders and not creating your own sovereignty and autonomy, which is why I love witchcraft so much. So that's an invitation.
And you can just sit with that, you know? How you do you how do you feel about that? How does that land for you? What what does it make you feel like?
Let's do one more.
If you're in the Kingston area, by the way, my band Hag, aforementioned Hag is doing a show at the Broom Factory. not even kidding. With another band called Ace of Wands, who are from Toronto, and a local wonderful witch named Christina Foster. We'd love to have you out. I'm gonna be reading tarot from the stage.
Last card, what do we need to know for now?
Alright, Queen of Pentacles. My friend
Let us move into nurturing, harvesting.
Let us move into caring, thinking before we make moves, believing in ourselves, believing in our authority, believing in our sovereignty.
Our fertility and what I mean by that is not
our ability to make babies. It's our ability to create and birth ideas, relationships, love.
Whatever we want to manifest. I mean, I've said this before, and I'm definitely not the first person to say it, but if you're really hungry you make yourself a meal, you've manifested that meal, right? Manifestation can be as simple as going out and getting what you want. a literal meal or a drink or
I don't know, a new journal.
When we think of manifesting as this ethereal lost in the great unknown, I don't even know where I'm going with this metaphor. When we think of it as weird or like separate or s magic, instead of co-creating with the universe to increase the energy towards this thing that we are trying to bring in our into our lives.
When we just see it as action steps that are aligned, right? We get signals pretty quickly if what we're trying to do is not in alignment with our values. Doesn't feel good. It's really hard to do.
Where can we look at manifestation as a daily activity and something that we absolutely can manage? And it isn't the same as wishing. It's action and co-creation with the unknown, that which we can't know.
But first we have to know what do we want to manifest? What do you want things to look like? What kind of energy do you want to be carrying in this world? What kind of work do you want to be doing? What kind of people do you want to be surrounded by?
What would you like to be the case for next year at this time?
Who would you like to have in your life? Who would you like to meet? What dreams do you have?
And our inner Queen of Pentacles is the one who brings that forward and it's with nurturing and thinking and intentional action.
Our minds are
Creative masterpieces. We have the ability come up with so many incredible, beautiful thoughts and ideas.
Let's nurture that. I'm saying this to myself. Let's get off our phones for a little bit. Get creative. Paint. See what comes to you. Go for a walk.
just hard not to make a reel about it, right? Just kidding. thank you for being here. Thank you for spending time with me today. I'd love to know who do you want to have on the show? Who is somebody that you're curious about?
