Megan Hamilton (00:01.546)
I'm Megan Hamilton and this is the Embracing Enchantment Podcast. I was going to do something different for today's episode and

Megan Hamilton (00:17.35)
decided that what I felt might be helpful collectively but also what is helpful for me today is that I want to talk about a little bit about what's going on.

Megan Hamilton (00:39.59)
and I want to pull some tarot cards for some guidance. Probably like me, you are a person who cares about other people. Probably you're striving to be a good person in this world and maybe what that means changes a lot. You want to be aware and learn about things and you want to also develop.

your connection to spirituality and whatever realm that holds for you. Same.

and today

the news. I wouldn't say it's hit me with grief. I don't I might be beyond grief at this point. Maybe you feel this way too. I mean, I'm almost a 52 year old woman.

I'm not almost a woman, I am a woman. I'm almost 52. I'm Gen X. I grew up with four computers.

Megan Hamilton (01:50.741)
I would say...

that almost everybody I know has known to some degree that what is unfolding

was always there, but I would say.

Megan Hamilton (02:13.046)
And certainly a lot of people, specifically black people and indigenous people have known what's really behind all of the prosperity that the Western world enjoys.

Megan Hamilton (02:38.532)
And even then.

Megan Hamilton (02:44.672)
it can still be.

shocking. So I don't want to dwell on that too much, mostly because I know that you're getting it from all angles in the same way that I am. And you're also getting it with various degrees of emotional

expression attached to it, right? So a lot of people are furious and angry and freaking out and like pop pop on into whatever signal boosting platform they're using in that state. And so not only then are you getting delivered this terrible, horrific news, but you're also like, absorbing the, you know, on on

untamed emotional response to it. And I understand that that is one way of dealing with your feelings. But I also might say that it also contributes to the collective never ending, ever growing trauma that we're experiencing, right? So

I don't want to do that today and I'm not even feeling that today. But I have been thinking a lot about the concept of both and which is very prominent in tarot and also.

Megan Hamilton (04:25.728)
is one of the principles of magic, which is being able to hold two seemingly opposite principles to be true at the same time. And so that's where we look at things like light and dark. Something can be both incredible and also terrible. People contain multitudes, right? You can have a friend who like

this wonderful person in one way and then like not a wonderful person in another way.

Megan Hamilton (05:01.878)
you can believe in science and you can also believe in ghosts. Because what I find helpful, especially in this year, which is the year of the Tarot card of the year is the Wheel of Fortune. And we get that by adding two plus zero plus two plus six year 2026, we get 10. And then, you know, you can reduce that further to the magician.

But what I am reminded of and I'm trying to really just sort of hold true as almost like a filter that I'm putting everything through is this will change.

This, the winter will change. How things are happening will change. We don't know when, we don't know how long.

Megan Hamilton (06:00.642)
but we can both be horrified but also hopeful that things might now have the power to change because

Megan Hamilton (06:14.249)
One of the things that.

has been true is that.

Megan Hamilton (06:23.658)
All of this stuff has been happening, whether we were aware of it intrinsically or somewhat or not at all, put blinders up. All of this has been happening the whole time.

If we didn't know, then we were going to be building on a shaky foundation anyway.

Megan Hamilton (06:55.47)
So what do we do? Well, as witches are people who are interested in magic work and transmutation and spirituality and the power of hopefulness and not Pollyanna hopefulness, like actual like, okay, if we want the world to change, what's my role in that? What could it look like? And how do we live together?

even though we don't agree perfectly on every single thing, et cetera, et So one thing I did the other day that I found very helpful was I did a freezer spell and I used one from Molly Donlon and there's so many out there that you can use. And basically you write down people who are creating harm, you write down their names and then you fill a bag with all kinds of stuff to freeze.

their actions. Different than a hex.

Megan Hamilton (08:02.312)
and you fill it with all the stuff and then water and you put it in your freezer. And I did that and it felt good. so do I think that my freezer spell is going to like stop the actions of this horror show that's unfolding? No. Do I not think that? Also, no. Like I believe in the power of intention and I believe in the power of

being mindful of what we want as a vehicle to get what we want, because we won't get what we want if we don't know what we want. You know what I'm saying? This is why I do new moon stuff, because it makes me sit down and think, OK, well, what do I want? And I get bored of this. the new moon that happened a few days ago, so it was an eclipse. And.

I things are just chaos right now anyways, right? But I kind of sat down to think about like, what do I want? was like, it's the same stuff.

Megan Hamilton (09:11.458)
And then I thought, well, does that mean it's not working?

And the answer has to be no. It's just things happen on a timeline that

we don't necessarily understand. So.

Megan Hamilton (09:33.75)
I did a freezer spell. That was really helpful. I've been talking to my friends about things. I also find that incredibly helpful. I light candles and I carve symbols in them of things I want to be paying attention to. Justice always. everybody, you know, there's lots of different symbols you can use for justice. I like the circle with the line through the circle.

to indicate balance, but like you can do scales, can do whatever you want.

Megan Hamilton (10:12.53)
And an end to suffering is another thing that I'm really keeping present of mind a lot. Especially for folks who are innocent and have not done anything to deserve the what has befallen them. So.

Megan Hamilton (10:39.744)
And like I can feel like I feel today, which is a little bit disoriented, hard to focus the news through me.

and that can be okay. And I can know that I'll probably feel different tomorrow or I'll have different energy. And keeping all that in mind is also very helpful. I hope that whatever I don't even like I'm now at the point in this conversation where I can't even remember exactly what I've said, but that's okay. Because we're going to pull tarot cards and the cards are going to tell us so tarot. I know this is not your favorite thing to do. But I want you to tell us.

either what to do, what to focus on, what's coming.

Megan Hamilton (11:31.318)
and what we need to know. And I just pull a series of cards.

Megan Hamilton (11:39.682)
Hanged man, okay, God damn it, okay. Hanged man is about shifting your perspective. Obviously, this person is hanging upside down, one foot tied to this tree trunk contraption.

And they have a halo. They have reached some kind of enlightenment through this shift in perspective. And you could say, okay, well, they're upside down. So they're seeing the world with different eyes, basically, right? Which is something I have thought about tons over the years, right? How to see things differently, especially when things feel bleak and complicated and horrible.

And again, we're not Pollyanna. It's not like, oh, well, we're just going to focus on what we want or the bright side or whatever. We want to be rooted in reality, but there's also always room for, I don't know, something to look forward to, some change that you want to be fighting for, whatever that is. And also.

something that's come up a lot over the last maybe a year. can't, I'm not really sure when this started for me was this idea of enlightenment through.

suffering, which is I, you know, I didn't make this up. There's references to it, you know, in the Bible, certainly, and, you know, throughout different religions and cultures and philosophies.

Megan Hamilton (13:28.344)
But I certainly would caution any of us who are not suffering, especially in the same degree that some are to say, well, you know, there will be enlightenment or, don't know. Something good always happens out of every situation. Because no, that's not always true. However, what if,

Megan Hamilton (14:01.921)
What if?

your grief was not for nothing. What if the pain and suffering meant something?

Not that you should have to experience grief and pain and suffering.

Megan Hamilton (14:24.97)
But what if there was some kind of reward for you because of it? Some kind of.

Megan Hamilton (14:36.962)
holistic and I just mean all the things I mean like material and immaterial

Megan Hamilton (14:48.31)
balancing of the scales, some justice. You can tell that I don't feel super comfortable saying those things and yet I pulled the hang ban and I actually want to cry right now. Felt like I couldn't not say it because there it was. Okay, what's next?

Megan Hamilton (15:17.63)
know it's because it doesn't seem fair like and it's not fair so that's why it it's so frustrating to that concept is so frustrating okay here we go

All right, we have the five of ones. Okay, here's here's why this is coming up. I think we have to have to I mean, it is not a question anymore. We have to learn how to be in conflict with each other. We have to learn how to regulate our nervous systems, even though that might seem absolutely impossible. And some of us, you know,

have more active activated nervous systems than others through all kinds of different reasons. And yet we have to learn how to regulate our nervous systems because it is the only way that we are going to be able to be in conflict with each other and communicate with each other within that conflict.

When we have the five of ones, we've got five people who are sort of sparring with each other with these giant ones. And yet we can see that none of them are hurt. There's no bandages, there's no psychic wounds, and they're all there sort of seemingly voluntarily, right? Like any of them could leave. Nobody's changed to the situation. And.

This is kind of the way we have to bring a lightness to these very complicated, complex, difficult, passionate conversations that need to happen right now. So that.

Megan Hamilton (17:11.67)
things can get done, because things need to get done. And if we don't start figuring out how we want things to look, people are gonna swoop in and make those decisions for us, right? In the event that everything kind of breaks down. So.

What does that mean?

Show up, be passionate.

Listen and do not require everybody to be perfect because that is not how the world works. People will make mistakes. People will say the wrong thing. People don't know better. We have to be able to talk to each other. And the other thing is, and I've said this before in another place, if you come at somebody full of rage and anger,

whatever, even if it's right, even if it's fair, right? Which you know, often is. It doesn't matter what you're saying, they won't be able to take it in. When's the last time somebody came up screaming to you and you were able to like, take the message and be like, yes, you're right.

Megan Hamilton (18:28.846)
activated nervous systems activate other people's nervous systems this is what I was talking about earlier when I was talking about people coming on you know social media for example and just like full of freaking out that affects people so

And it's not about, you know, it's not about diluting your anger. It's not about not feeling things, but it is about understanding how human beings absorb information. And the bigger picture is we want things to change. And we play a role in that.

Okay, how we doing?

Megan Hamilton (19:18.584)
What's next?

Megan Hamilton (19:27.438)
Queen of Cups. Okay. All right. my gosh. So much to say about her. I love her. Do you remember the episode with Nicholas Pearson? Where he talked, where I showed him the brooch from my family heirloom brooch. And I talked about the fact that the brooch is called a pebble brooch. And he was talking about where it was from. It's a citrine that's really rare. Anyways, this Queen of Cups hanging out, you know,

with the pebbles by the water always reminds me of that now. All right, so I mean, okay, we're in Pisces season. There's lots of feelings to be had.

Megan Hamilton (20:09.826)
There is no lack of things to make you feel things right now. With queens, we think of nature and nurturing, and we think of...

supporting and you know, okay. And cups are in the realm of emotion. There's tons of water around here. We don't know where her robe and the water, you know, where they, they, they seem to become each other. and she is looking at this cup, which is the most unique cup in the suits of cups.

It always reminds me of a Russian samovar. If you ever took theater like me, you probably studied Russian plays a bunch. And the look of determination on this Queen's face. She is willing something into existence. Now, also with cups, we think of intuition, right? Emotions give us information. not, they don't always feel helpful, right?

going back to that idea of like getting completely emotionally dysregulated and and and and not not being helpful and also nobody faults anybody for that because my god but

Megan Hamilton (21:42.766)
What is she willing into existence? So if we're thinking about emotion and intuition and nurturing and, you know, queens like kings are leaders, the realm is in a, you know, a bit of a different realm. We are willing into existence. I would say the ability to emotionally regulate.

sure why not. And what our intuition is telling us is what's important. And I would imagine that you have been questioning things over the last little while, maybe forever, but especially the last little while. And your intuition might be giving you information, clues, breadcrumbs. What is that trying to tell you? And when it comes time to start

dreaming up how things could look and what are you willing to let wash away?

Megan Hamilton (22:51.118)
All right, I'm going leave that there and we're going to do one more.

Megan Hamilton (23:00.232)
decided I didn't do notes for this one which is unusual but I had decided I was like I should tell people that what I do I do for my regular job my regular job it's all the same but I I coach speakers I am the speaker advisor for the second largest TEDx in Canada I have coached federal

politicians and diplomats and Paralympic medalists and bestselling authors. Jericho Mandibur did a TEDx that I coached. You might know them. That's why I'm mentioning their specific name. It's beautiful, by the way. It's called The World Needs Weirdos. Highly recommend looking it up. And I also, so my work

is about performance or sort of, you know, like technical skills to be able to present yourself in a way that feels good because, you know, a lot of people struggle. They're like, I'm, you know, really good at what I do. You know, I have all of these great things. And then when I get in front of people, I just turn into a version of myself that I don't that, you know, doesn't match with what's going on. So

I also work with small business owners to help people figure out how to show up in marketing, especially when it's difficult. And if you're curious about that, then I recommend checking out my website, which is, you you've heard me say embracing enchantment.com a bunch. And certainly that's for the podcast, but impact which.com is my website.

And may I also take this minute to thank you for being here. Many of you are, you know, get in touch every time there's an episode to let me know what you think. And I really appreciate it. And I love doing this podcast and I truly appreciate signal boosting support. Right. So if you love an episode, sharing it, social media shares are really helpful. Listening to the podcast.

Megan Hamilton (25:28.645)
Yeah. Rating it. You can also send us a voicemail if you want. You can find all that information at embracingenchantment.com. Okay. What's our last card? This was supposed to be 10 minutes.

I have ADHD. god damn it. Okay, fine. Seven of swords.

All right, listen.

I believe in honesty, believe in integrity, I believe in fairness.

Megan Hamilton (26:08.885)
And I also believe that when these motherfuckers,

have now created this catastrophe with no remorse.

with no care about what they've done and are hoarding all of the money while people are starving.

Megan Hamilton (26:48.158)
I think it's absolutely fine.

Megan Hamilton (26:54.83)
Two.

Megan Hamilton (26:59.53)
not be fair with those people. Let's just put it that way. If you change the rules. So what do I mean by that? With the seven of swords, we've got somebody who's snuck into it's a war and somebody who snuck into the other side and stolen their weapons, thereby rendering them incapable of fighting in the war.

Megan Hamilton (27:26.24)
All I'm saying is, if none of us have actually been playing by the rules that we were told were the rules, sorry, let me try that again. If the rules that we were told were the rules,

aren't actually the rules that the people in power have been playing by. I don't actually have a problem with not playing by the rules with those folks. Does that mean I think we just throw everyone into prison and blah, blah, whatever, blah? No.

Megan Hamilton (28:04.962)
but sometimes I think in order to.

Megan Hamilton (28:12.608)
stop people who are not fair, just, caring. I don't have to have the same sense of justice towards them that they never had towards me.

Megan Hamilton (28:32.256)
And if we keep thinking, well, we're just going to arrest them and put them in jail and that will stop all of this. That's not it.

It's just not because they don't care. So what does that mean? I don't know, but I know that is why this card came up. And like sometimes I think of this card. It's like it's like the mom card where you know that you kind of have to.

do a little finagling over here and have a little conversation over here just to keep the peace in the house, right? I mean, you don't have to, you can. That's what I think of this card. So I don't mean by any means necessary. I definitely don't mean that, but I also don't mean keep playing by the rules even though other people are absolutely fucking you over. That's what I mean, okay? So there we go. I think that's enough for today.

I wish you joy.

Beauty. Justice.

Megan Hamilton (29:49.196)
I wish you so much love.

Megan Hamilton (29:58.478)
and I'll see you in two weeks. You can find out, what do I say at the end here? Find out all the information you need at embracingenchantment.com, catch up with old podcast episodes. We have some great episodes coming up. One with this gorgeous witch who lives very much in line with nature and has a fabulous podcast. You're gonna really enjoy that conversation as I did.

And I'm going to try to rope Sarah, who owns the award winning women in media network on which we live about the magic of podcasts. What do think about that?

Megan Hamilton (30:42.368)
Until then, my beloved friends, here's to building an enchanted life.

as a fuck you to all those absolute.
